We have a really busy two years ahead so in 2017 we thought we’d get together our friends, artists, supporters, partners and arts lovers to present a sneak peek into our upcoming program!
We threw a little party at the Northern Centre for Contemporary Arts, which featured street performances from Darwin musicians, Caiti Baker and James Mangohig, and a hip hop battle in the middle of an exhibition space between Darwin artist Angus Robson and dancer, Aaron Lim. After a couple of years of funding uncertainty, it was a wonderful opportunity to come together and celebrate the Northern Territory’s arts sector.
Our launch coincided with the opening of Punuku Tjukurpa, an exhibition celebrating the stories and Law of Anangu culture, told through intricate carvings and artefacts. Punuku Tjukurpa is the first touring exhibition of artworks from the Maruku Arts archive based at Mutitjulu near Uluru in the Northern Territory, and showcases a rich, sacred history. This exhibition is showing at the Northern Centre for Contemporary Art until 22 July.
Artback NT acknowledges the Custodians of the lands on which we work and travel, and whose sovereignty was never ceded. We pay our respects to Elders and their continuing connection to land, water, community, and culture. This was and always will be Aboriginal land.
