Border v2.0

Akiq AW

About

Border v2.0 developed out of Indonesian artist, Akiq AW’s exhibition Border as part of his Kerjasama residency in Alice Springs. Border saw Akiq AW learn about Alice Springs and residents’ lives, through its façade, the physical appearance of the town and the social codes and conventions that exist.

The term ‘border’ refers to a conceptual line that divides or separates multiple aspects that exist in social life; i.e. private from public, rural to urban, us from them, necessary to disposable, lawful from criminal.

In Border v2.0, Akiq AW extends his survey of everyday borders to his hometown of Yogyakarta, Indonesia, using the same approaches as he did in Alice Springs.
