SPARK NT Curator Program

SPARK is an Artback NT initiative that supports an independent or emerging curator resident in the Northern Territory to develop an exhibition project for tour. The program is designed to foster art critical and curatorial practice within the NT and provide NT artists with opportunities to showcase their work within curated touring exhibitions.

SPARK exhibitions are developed over a maximum of eight months in one year for tour throughout the Northern Territory the following year.

In 2017 the inaugural SPARK NT Curator, Clare Armitage, developed the exhibition Fecund: Fertile Worlds – now touring the NT!

Applications for the 2018 SPARK NT Curator are now closed. Applicants will be notified of the outcome of the assessment process by 30 April, 2018.

In 2018 Artback NT, with support from Catalyst – Australian Arts and Culture Fund, will contribute the following financial support towards the successful project:

  • a $10,000 curatorial fee
  • a $10,000 budget towards research (travel/consultation) and development (artist/loan fees and signage/design)

The exhibition project will be in development from May 2018 for tour beginning April 2019.
