El Ibo: Producer in Residence 2021–2022
El Ibo is a professional actor, dancer and emerging playwright who moved from Cairns in 2017. She now calls Darwin home and has performed or created works at Brown’s Mart Theatre, knock ’em down theatre and Darwin Fringe Festival. She has tutored drama at Corrugated Iron Youth Arts and Darwin Community Arts. Previously El has worked with Jute Theatre in Cairns, Queensland and Australian Theatre for Young People in Woolloomooloo, New South Wales. She has a Bachelor of Creative Industries from James Cook University, majoring in performance and a Graduate Certificate in teaching. Being immersed every day in the different cultures, landscapes and stories of the Northern Territory is El’s main inspiration to write and create.
El’s work has taken her across the Northern Territory to 35 remote communities where she has facilitated drama and dance workshops for young people and people living with a disability. She has shared her performance skills through training and tutoring and has created positive distraction therapy workshops within medical settings for Captain Starlight.
Through the Producer in Residence opportunity El is excited to step into the world of producing and start building upon the ideas that she has been burning to share with audiences. El pitched a multi artform project aimed at primary to middle school students. The project will combine modern tales with old technology (aka the versatile overhead projector). We are looking forward to supporting El in her desire to understand more about producing and turning her idea into reality.
